Wacky Wednesday - Fred's so lucky

Fred is so lucky to have us as housemates, and we are lucky that she let's us live in her house.    Because I am allergic to cats, and I don't like cat hair around.  We bath Fred.  She pretends she doesn't like it, but I think deep down she does.
If she hears the bath water running you can never find her so we are always having to think of new ways to get her in there.  Karst grabs her feet and puts her in the water, we have a rubber bath mat for her so she can dig her claws in that.  He holds her down and I soap and rinse her and then we grab a towel and roll her in it.

It usually takes her a few hours to dry, and then we comb her and get a lot of the hair. Once she is dry she is so soft and smells like bubble gum.  And everyone goes on being happy.   I am sure she knows I am talking about her and is planning some revenge.  But I know where the cat treats are so I can always win in the end.

Winner?? Who guessed 235

Can you believe it only took Karst 235 days from when "we" started the blog do a post? Even though he only did it to show me how much smarter he is, we will give it to him. Because hey wasn't that a great video off you tube?

Some people had a little pool going of how long it would take Karst to do a post, some said 3 months, some said 6, some guessed 3 years. The winner is Fred, who guessed 236 days ( I think they were in cahoots). I won't tell you my guess because there is a small chance he could read this post, all I can say is I never gave up. I knew that if you wait long enough and didn't bug him, it could happen. And I am just relieved to see someone else's words on our beautiful benevolent basely blamable blue blog!!

And to keep the scoring tradition alive:

As long as I am the winner, that is all that matters!!

Wacky Wednesday

Karsten and I need an intervention to join OA. "Over-packers Anonymous."
When Karst goes backpacking, his friend Steve makes him go through the pack to lighten it because he tries to pack everything he thinks he might need.  Like 4 pair of levi's for hiking, because that is a good idea.  He'll take 3 pair of shoes and if there is a pocket or a little extra space it is going to be filled.

Me, well lets just say that I lug everything in my purse, I always have large purses because I always need my planner, wallet, ipod, gum, business cards, pens, pencils, highlighters, white-out, tape, scissors, notebooks, phone, sunglasses, eyeglass cleaner, granola bars, lipstick allergy medicine and tissues.
The best is when we are going on a trip together.  I
can't believe I have never taken a picture of our luggage when we go to Wyoming.  Seriously, we are a little obsessive.  And this not an exaggeration, if we think we might need it we take it, we have even taken Fred (our cat) a few times, because what if we need to pet her or see her or something.  We did finally stop trying to make her a traveling cat.  Besides the regular "necessities" like deodorant and a toothbrush.  This is seriously what we pack.  We each bring a pillow and blanket, a cooler, at least one crochet project.  The ibook, Karst's work laptop, my scanner, a few books, 3 pair of shoes each, snow shows, snow clothes,  bottles of water, ipods.  We each fill a suitcase with clothes, another bag for shower supplies, battery

charger, cell phone charges, Nintendo DS's (all our games), running clothes, homework and bored games.  We love our ipods because now we don't have to try and figure which 30 CD's we are going to take, we take the 80 gig ipod and we are good to go.  Can you even imagine what will happen when we have kids?

And believe me I wish I was kidding when I said I have taken our dishes, goblets, napkins, table clothes, videos, ribbon, tongs, candles, air mattress and sleeping bag.
Why all the stuff?  We are only 2 hours away, there is a Wal-mart right there.  We are still in civilization our families have nice homes with many things. We will be gone for 2 days 3 at the most. But somehow we just
sleep better with everything we own surrounding us.  This is why we need the Over-packers anonymous.  Next time we have a trip I will get all the pictures so you can see how out of control we really are.

So when you are on the interstate heading east on I-80 and you see a car with boxes strapped to the top, the trunk tied down with snow shoes sticking out and the back seat is so full of boxes you can't see any heads, you might say to yourself, "wow I bet those people are moving" and then you pa
ss and notice it is a silver Lancer with two great looking people singing at the top of their lungs, just wave and say oh, that is Karst and Kim on their way to Wyoming for a few days.

Happy 5th Birthday Fred.

Fred is our cat, yes she is a girl and her name is Fred.  Long story short I thought I was getting the male, got the female and used the same name

So like most house cats, we are fortunate that she lets us live in her house.  She sometimes can't figure out if we really live in the house or if we just put our stuff there because we aren't home as often as she would like.  When it is 10 pm if we are not in bed, she is standing at the top of the stairs starring us down

and when it is 10:30 she gives up and goes to bed.  In the summer she sleeps in her basket that is at the end of the bed or in the winter she tries to sleep by our feet wherever it is the warmest.

But any basket or blanket she can find is a perfect place for a catnap.  Her and Karst have a lot of bonding time together on the couch with the blankets.  She loves to be petted at night and in the morning, again on her terms; she will pick which one of us will have the honor.

For the most part she is an indoor cat, however on Sundays we do let her out for a few hours.  We don't announce it is Sunday, we don't remind her it is Sunday, but somehow every Sunday she is standing at the sliding glass doors waiting to go out.  We have tried to find the wall were she keeps track of the days but no luck yet.

If there is snow, wind or rain when she goes outside she is mad at us and expects us to fix it, needless to say she has not been happy this winter.  Karst is her favorite person and when  he goes on trips and Fred has to be with me after a few days she will start howling at the top or the stairs.  When she sees him packing she tries to give him the cold shoulder.  I am sure she has more figured out about us then we have about ourselves.

Her favorite toy is the milk rings.  Fred will only eat her cat food, we have offered her chicken potato chips, turkey and even bacon she will just smell it and run off.  She does like her cat treats but will usually only eat a few.  She expects fresh water daily, and she lets us know when we aren't meeting her expectations.

Unfortunatley she does have an addiction problem. it is with adhesive, especially double stick tape.  I don't know what it is but she goes crazy with that stuff, so we try to keep it away, although it will be her birthday this week so maybe I'll break out a roll of double stick tape for her.

Fred is a great supervisor, she is always watching whatever we are doing.  She has to be in the same room we are just 5 feet away. She has shredded 2 scratching posts in 5 years but she has left the furniture alone so we can't complain.  She is afraid of the vacumm, loud music and strangers.  She is a great part of our home. I am glad she has allowed us to live in her house.  So there you have it, everything you never knew and probably didn't want to know about our cat FRED!!
