Good Bye West Jordan

For 13 years West Jordan was home.  It is weird that this chapter has come to a close.  It has been bitter sweet.  We had great friends and neighbors that will be missed.  Everything about our lives changed while we lived in that home.  As for the why we moved,  there are a few reasons but the main reason is, we want to grow our family through another adoption, our current attempts have not worked.  We needed more money to go through a private agency.  Selling our home is how we are going to do that.  Right now we are renting in Draper.

We are so grateful for our excellent Realtor Dawn Perry, who helped us get an offer in 50 days at a fair price.  She was amazing and know how to market our home to potential buyers.  I think she had 5 open houses and handed out over 1,000 flyers.

For Sale

“Nothing happens until the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change”– Arthur Burt.

The past 10 months we have been getting ready to put our house on the market.  That is a job!  Now that the excess furniture is in storage, the unused items are boxed, some walls have been repainted.  We get to have a nifty little For Sale sign in our yard.

You can see all the details here.

With a busy husband, a 5 year old only in preschool and also a job, this has been a work in progress.  The hardest part has been the emotional good bye.

This is our first home, we were only married 4 years when we bought this home.  It is Charlee’s first home, and Fred’s first home.  The parties, the get togethers and just hanging out, with friends and family.  So many memories created in these walls. We have loved this home, it has been our sanctuary from the world.

I have scrubbed and shined every inch inside and out, sometime with my tears, this house has been a blessing in our life.  It’s time for this home to be a blessing for others.

There are new friends to meet, new memories to create and a new place to live.  Where that is we don’t know yet.  Once we have said our farewell to this home and welcomed the new owners in, we will find our next home.

Please share if you know someone wanting to live in a great neighborhood, with an amazing ward family and an amazing view.

When He Spoke My Love Language . . .

I am not a Valentine’s Day fan, the expectations get out of control. I am ok with little or nothing on Valentines, a card is perfect.  On the years I do get gifts, most of the times it is a mix CD, which I love and listen to in my car, they make me feel connected when we are apart throughout the day.

The morning of Valentines, I was not expecting anything and was surprised to get one of the best gifts I have ever received.  It came in the form of an email.  It was an eReceipt for some Hockey Game Tickets; row 1 in the corner, seats 2, 3 and 4, Utah Grizzlies vs. Alaska Aces.  Karst is a genius and got me a gift only he knew I would love but never spend the money on.

The game was this past Saturday and it was everything I dreamed it could be plus so much more.  Siting rink side you can feel the chill of the ice coming through the floor.  You see the expressions and the effort of the players, hear what the players are saying and when the excitement builds you get to pound on glass. You can feel the force of the players as they checked each other, hear the puck as it bounces off the side boards. Sharing such an experience with Karst and Charlee was the cherry on top.

I really loved every moment of it.  Even though we sat by crazy 50 year old lady, a school teacher from Rock Springs, with bad breath, who talked to us like we had never seen hockey.  The game was intense, the Grizzlies had lost to the Aces the day before and they were in for the win, it was tied a couple times and the last 10 minutes of the 3rd period we finally pulled ahead and kept the lead 4-3. Charlee said I was screaming too loud.

Today I wanted to let you know that this year for Valentines, Karst spoke my Love Language and got me Rink Side Hockey Tickets!! I am a very lucky girl!

6 Truths My Fertile Friends Taught Me about Infertility

When I was first thrown into the category “infertile” I felt overwhelmed with grief and pain.  I thought about my friends who had kids and assumed they had no idea about my pain. I choose to feel isolated.
Opening up about infertility to my friends who are in the different phases of life I have learned valuble truths about woman.  Below is an example of what 6 out of a couple dozen have taught me.

  1.  My friend Stormy, who had just lost her mother and was now facing life at 30 without any parents sent me a message about supporting and loving others around us, no matter the situation it opened my eyes that others around me were grieving and suffering. Don’t have a pity party  alone, others are grieving also, find them. Love them. I will always be grateful for her wise words.
  2.  In a conversation with my friend, Elizabeth who had 6 kids, (of course I was jealous), she just mentioned “really, you never have to worry about being pregnant? Oh wow, that would be fabulous.” It was then that I realized that fertility could be a double edge sword.  The brief conversation changed my thoughts about timing.  I gained sympathy for others, who were blessed with children that came in a time not planned, and might have been overwhelming.
  3. While talking with my single friend Christie, who shared with me that when she does find someone she wants to spend her life with, baring children will no longer be an option. Many have missed opportunities and they have to let go of their family dream.  We cried together about what will never be. My sympathy grew for those who had lost the opportunity to bare children.
  4.  My friend Kim, shared with me her struggle with choosing to have a hysterectomy, at the age of 26, although she had 3 boys who she loved. Having so many girl problems, it was recommended by her doctor, to have the procedure.   She had second thoughts and struggles, but knew it was best for her health and well being. I realized many have to close the door on fertility, even though they are still young.   Years later, in a new marriage I have watched her find her way through adoption, a very rough road for her.  It is heartbreaking watching a good mother, fight so hard for children to bring into her home.
  5. What really opened my eyes, about the truth every woman faces their own fertility, was in talking to my friend Becky, she had 4 children, they were older, she was older and now going through that hmm “change.”  She shared with me her unexpected grief and sorrow in letting go of that part of herself. I recognized the grief of getting older.  Now I watch her trying to support and help her daughter go through IVF, to start her own family.  She feels helpless watching her daughter go through this, and wants to help her daughter find some peace in her life.
In talking with these ladies and several others, (mostly who were sitting in my salon chair).  I have come to know that somehow in growing up and preparing for this prime time of my life, with birth control conversations, and pregnancy discussions, family planning advice, no one said, the truth,
#6 YOU NEVER HAVE CONTROL OVER FERTILITY.”
Every woman has a point in her life that she feels the grief of this.  No matter the circumstances, our own choice, age, body failing or the many other reasons, every woman feels a lack of control over something so important.

I no longer categorize myself as an infertile woman.  I categorize myself as a woman, who has already discovered the truth about fertility. I decide how much I will hold onto the hurt.  How much I will reach out to other woman and talk to them about this truth.  I am always a better person listening to someone else share with me their journey of motherhood, and very grateful we do not have to find these truths on our own.

Our Sochi 2014 Olympic Party

Well I think we are ready for the Opening Ceremonies for tonight.  Total prep time was maybe 2 hours and the cost as under $30!! I google imaged and went through Pinterest and I found some great ideas, (maybe for Rio 2016?)  but for now my goal was simple.

Geography &  Olympic Awareness.
I found this map for $ 6 at Utah Idaho Supply Store.  Where I picked up some star stickers. To show the sports I printed off the Olympic Pictograms, $10 at FedexOffice.com.

The stickers are put on each participating country.  The chain is for the # of days of the Olympics ( I have not been able to break the chain . . . yet.

Tonight, while watching the Opening Cerimonies we will be enjoying ice cream and making some Olympic Medals. I also printed off some coloring sheets, which will color while watching games.

I am still trying to figure out if we track metals by printing flags and putting stickers for each metal on the flag, or if I will print the athelete picture and put that on each event, since there is a delay I can have the winners ready to put on. . . .

Oh yes she is excited!!

Celebrating the Olympics!! Sochi 2014 - bring it!

O is for Olympics.  And it is exciting.

We are going to celebrate excellence. Hard work.  Achievement.  Goal Setting.  Sportsmanship. Defeat. Endurance.  Diversity. Talent. Skill.  And Love.

The Opening Ceremonies are in 3 days.  This is how I will be teaching Charlee about the world, geography, language, culture.  This is how I will be teaching her about joy, and successes and sadness and how nothing is guaranteed,  but good or bad you have to move on in life.

Thanks to OnDemand we will watch what we can, and track what we can't.  Here is a link to the schedule. http://www.sochi2014.com/en/schedule-and-results

It may not be a party every night.  But we will be watching and learning and experiencing these games together. . . . if your close and want to join us.  Please do!  (we might be eating fruit loops).  Oh and be sure there will be plenty of tweets and fb posts to keep you in the loop.

Sisters

I grew up with 4 sisters and 0 brothers. Yes that is a lot of estrogen and yes we know how to get under each other skin.  If you were missing a skirt or some earrings, you could always find it with their stuff.

Now, that we have our own families, and on different paths in our lives, getting together is not always easy.  But it is always lots of fun when it happens.

My four sisters are my first BFF's they know all my embarrassing moments and my weaknesses, yet they still love and support me.  I could never imagine my life without them.  Even though we don't talk everyday and only get together a handful of times a year, we never miss a step.  There is always a lot of laughter and maybe just a little bit of drama.

**disclaimer** I have ran out of space to upload new pictures, so hold on and soon I will have new up to date stuff for you.

Operation: Big Sister

Just recently, we again, went through the adoption approval process with our agency.  Which means we are officially approved to adopt another baby!  Like last time, our agency does not seek out potential birth parents, nor do they try and match us up.  They offer counseling and other services to those who have an unexpected pregnancy.  If the woman considers adoption the birth parents then pick the family they want to place their baby with.

We like this about our adoption agency; it keeps the mother in control of her situation.  The hard part is, it does make our “wait time” longer, then other agencies.  We are turning our “waiting time” to a “finding time.”  We are not waiting for another placement we are sharing our information with as many people as we can so the right birth mother can find us.

Our daughter, Charlee’s birth family found us, through a family member telling a friend that we were hoping to adopt, almost a year before she was born.  That is the amazing thing about adoption; you never know how the connection is going to be made.

We have an open adoption with Charlee birth mother and her family, as well as her birth father and his family. Which means there is open communication between us, we share pictures, exchange emails, and even find time for occasional visits.  This has been a wonderful blessing in our lives.  We love and care about them and consider them a part of our family.  An open adoption is something a birth family can chose, both the birth parents and the adoptive parents agree on the amount of contact.

We could go on for hours about adoption, but we will spare you all the statistics and facts.  We know that when a parent places their child in a new home, it is not a decision that is taken lightly, but is made with deep soul searching and love for their child.

“Its like learning to fly or falling in love, its gonna happen when it’s supposed to happen. Then we find the reason why, one step at a time.” – Jordan Sparks

If anyone you know is considering adoption please pass along our information.  If you have any questions or want more information about adoption, we would love to hear from you.

**We also have awesome pass along cards, created by this crafty lady, (she also did the new pictures of our family)  if you would like some please send us an email with your mailing address**

Oh What Do You Do in the WInter Time When Its' Negative Zero?

Charlee and her papa  playing car in the kitchen.  One of her favorite things to do is watch her self while being recorded.  (After you watch the video, this will all make sense)

Here is a picture of her looking at herself, she always tilts her head, funny crazy girl!

Its always time for cupcakes

Charlee has 10 cousins now and by the end of the year she will have 13. How great is that?
This is Luke, he is my sister, Rebeccas son. He is 14 months older than Charlee, and her idol. She watches everything he does and learns from him. They play and fight together like cousins do. He watches out for her, wipes her nose and gives her treats. He is the closest thing to a big brother she will have and I am so grateful they have each other.

Summertime!!

Karsten's office had a Summer party at Fairview Lake.

We went to the petting zoo with some friends at Gardner Village,
Charlotte liked looking at the animals, but did not want to touch them.

Krista & Charlotte,
Krista is our friends daughter, she is also adopted, she was born on November 6th, so they are only 2 days apart. Krista was born 6 weeks early and is a smaller than Charlotte,
this is the first time they met, how great will this be?!

Just hanging out at home, she was going for the cat food behind her.

I hope you are sitting, because this will surpise you,
after taken down our deck YEARS ago,
we had one put in last week.

Charlotte will give you the tour:

Here is the entrance from the house, it is crawling friendly.
Here is the floor, which is so much better to crawl on than
grass or cement, it is real Red wood, just smell it.
This is the end of the deck, you can watch cars drive by and
watch the birds and no one hardly notices you.
This is how it looks early in the morning,
after my crazy mom made my hair look crazy.
I hope you enjoyed the tour,
I would like to show you the stairs and the posts underneath,
but I have a restricted access, so you will have to wait to see the rest.

It is always a joy to have helping hands, around.

We started out the day, going to a free movie
with Aunt Rebecca's kids, Alisha and Luke,
the movie wasn't what we thought so we left and hung out at our house,
coloring and eating fruit.

Just woke up from a nap, the hair always gives it away.
She almost looks innocent, I mean she is always innocent.

Except when she doesn't get what she wants right now.
Playing with powder.

More helpful hands.

All the details . . .

Finally, the pictures and the details of everything becoming official. Okay, before you read or scroll down any further you better go to the bathroom, kiss your kiddos good-night, grab a nice cold glass of water and maybe a tissue. I am not kidding, there is almost 150 pictures here. (you know I am very crazy about pictures.)

Now are you ready? Where we live, the law is Charlee had to be in our home for 6 months, before we could finalize. Charlee was placed in our home November 5th, we were in court on May 5th, at 8:00 a.m.

Finalization
The adoption has to be finalized before we can have her sealed to us in the temple, and before she can get a blessing. After much thought we decided to do the sealing in Manti, where we were married almost eleven years ago. We were able to get the same sealing room we had before. Here is what happened that day.

The week before was crazy busy trying to get everything ready, thanks to our helpful friends who loaded there cars and helped with the preparations it took a lot of the stress off. It was going to be a day of celebrating, a day to be grateful, a day to recognize the miracles.

Charlee woke up all happy, like always, and we started getting ready to head out the door.
Charlee played on the floor waiting for us to get ready, she stayed in her pajamas,
to keep her cool for the 3 hour drive.
Here we are, our family has officially grown!!
Many of our friends and families drove long distances to share the day with us and to witness the sealing. It was amazing to be back in the Manit Temple, we were just taking it all in. We knew we were there because of the sacrifice of Charlee's birth families, we were there because of our desire to have a forever family, we were there because of angels watching out for us.

As I sat in the bride's room waiting for our turn, I watched the newly married brides worry about the smallest things, like their hair, their bouquet, and that everything was perfect. I just stayed quite and laughed to myself. I wanted to tell them it was not going to matter, in 2 years they would not even remember, the piece of hair that wasn't perfect. I wanted to tell them to hold on and get ready for married life, because it is not always pretty flowers, and everything going perfect. They might have a wonderful life all planned out, but there was so little they had control over. I really wanted to tell them, why I was there, what I was doing that day. That even though things will not work out like you think, they will work out better then they could even imagine, if they are diligent with their desires in righteousness. But instead of pouring out all my wisdom, my thoughts turned to Charlee and the amazing person she is, how beautiful she is and how much joy she had brought into our home. So I had a good cry while I was waiting, tears of happiness, tears of relief, and tears of gratitude.

Our time finally came, we watched as all of our friends and family came into the Sealing room. You could feel the spirit, the love and the peace that you only feel in the temple. It was a sacred day. Our Sealer, shared many things with us about Eternal Families and why they are important and then a temple worker brought in Charlee, in her beautiful, eyelet and ribbon dress, with her hair in pigtails with white bows. She really is an angel on earth. She looked around at everyone before she looked at me and Karst, she was very calm and peaceful. The Sealer performed the ceremony, and just like that, we were an Eternal Family, she will have all the blessings as if she had been born to us. There were lots of tears being shed. We hugged everyone who came to share the day with us, we held Charlee close to us.

On the way down to Manti, we talked about our journey to have a family, we talked about all we did, and Karst said, "This never would have happened without Elle and Kolby, they are the ones who have paid the price, it is because of their love of Charlee that we get this experience." We are humbled they choose us to be Charlee's parents. We thought about them often throughout the day. We are so grateful Elle and her family was able to join us to celebrate.

After the sealing was done, we went outside and took so many pictures. These are a few of the pictures Kim Orlandini took for us. She did an amazing job. I could stare at the pictures all day.

And what a saint she is, coming all the way down to Manti,
seven months pregnant taking pictures in the heat,
on the hill with us non photogenic people.
She has been a blessing in our lives in so many ways.
Here we are with Elle. She really is an amazing person. I am a mother, because of her.
I don't know how to put in words how important she is to us and how much we love and care about her.
Can you see why Charlee is so beautiful, she gets it from her birth mother.
How wonderful that she came to share the day with us.
Okay, enough talking, more pictures.
These are candid shots my sister Ashlynn took for me of everyone.
Here we are waiting for everyone to gather.
I know this picture looks odd, but if you look at the people, there is my sister Rebecca and her husband Dan, my sister Ashlynn, my parents, Karst's parents and our friends the Geddes's all coming out of the temple. It was such a great thing to have them there with us.
This guy is Steve, he has been a good friend of Karst's for fifteen years, he has also become one of my closest friends. We actually bought our house with him and he lived with us for 3 years, until then he got married and moved far away.

The girl holding Charlee is Veronica, her sisters Cassie and Mary are beside her. About 7 years ago Karst taught her in Sunday School and he came home one day from church and said if we could have a daughter like Veronica he would be okay with us having kids. She is so much fun and a very talented dancer.
This is Pat and Becky, Pat and Karst went to High School together and they have remained good friends, they have two little girls. Then there is Steve and his wife Tammy they have two boys. How lucky we are to have such long term friends.
Here is some more group shots of our friends and family that drove all the way to Manti
just to see Charlee, and maybe us.

These are my parents, and my younger sister Rebecca.
Here is Ellee, her parents Jane and Lane, her brothers Martin
and L. J. (he is hiding beind his mom but you can see his arm).
More pictures of Charlee and Elle.

Knowing that we would be taking lots of pictures at the temple, we sent all of our friends and family to the Old City Hall to enjoy some lunch. And we joined them later.

We had gone there earlier to set it up, and my dear friend Christie stayed and got everything ready, and she had everything perfect. My friend Gaye helped a lot with the decorations, and her husband Randy and son Justin did a lot of the heavy duty work.
We could not have had such a wonderful day without their help.
This room was the old Social Hall that had recently been restored,
I was so happy I found this place.
Since I had a few pictures of Charlee over the last seven months,
we used them as center pieces on the table, with buttons and daises for confetti.

My friend Becky (picture further down), made me this family hanging for my birthday. I love it, and the picture of us was our Christmas present from Santa.

One of my all time favorite things was these m&m's my sister Rebecca and my mom got for the day. Some had pictures of Charlee on them and some had the date. Too priceless!

Many people brought salads to share, and we also enjoyed meat and cheese trays, on the warm afternoon. But I think the best part was the fresh made donuts we got next door at the local diner. They were perfect!!

Cute Pat & Becky again.

This is my talented friend Becky (who made the family sign) and her husband Dave,
they are some of the funniest people I know.
Its time to eat. I like looking at these pictures because we weren't there
so I can see what was really going on.
On the left is my sister in law Jenn who was just married to Karst's brother Tommy, then there is Randy, in the back, the strong man who went up and down the narrow flight of stairs with heavy boxes, then my sister in law Celeste and her husband, Karst's brother, Brad.
This is Uncle Tom, he is the one that made the beautiful quilt that is on our bed,
he has always been so supportive and helpful throughout our marriage,
we were so glad he was able to make it.
The food line up, don't worry Christie had it so organized they just flew through
and there was not a lot of waiting.

On the left is Karst's brother Brian, then on the far right is Karst's youngest brother Tommy with his son Jaxon and his wife Jenn, we were so happy they were there to share the day with us.
Here is my mother, Shannon and again my sister Rebecca
(remember my other sister Ashlynn has the camera,
so she got a picture of them every chance she could)

These three little cuties are my nieces, Brad's daughters, Katie, Cora and Serah.

Okay, not a good picture, but the two that have their back to the camera are Kris and his wife Karee, they have a little boy that was born just 2 months after Charlee.

One woman who made another woman a mother,
Ell and I, when we finally arrived at the luncheon.
Totally unplanned but we both wore our pearl bracelets.
What can I say, great minds think a lot.

On the left we have Jan, Kart's mom, and next to her is Jane, Elle's mom. These two have been friends for many many years, Elle found out about Karst and I because in November of 2007 Jan told Jane we were wanting to adopt. Miracles! (gives me chills)
Charlee's daddy,
Karst.
Rebecca & Charlee,
I think someone needed a nap??
Now I am sure you recognize Rebecca and my mom,
here they are with Charlee and their husbands, Dan and my dad.
Look at her cute bracelet, almost as cute as her hair ribbons.
She is so good at always finding something to play with and eat,
even if someone else is wearing it.
This is Alan Stoddard, from our bishopric, he came with his family to share the day with us and since he was there, Karst was able to give Charlee a Name and a Blessing.

L. J is the on on the left, he is also the one who made Charlee's crib.
Me, my sister Ashlynn (who was taking pictures for me)
and you know the one in the pink by now, Rebecca.
Our good friends, neighbors, strong and talented, Randy & Gaye.
Karst's brother Tommy and Charlee.
And since I am showing a lot of pictures of a lot of people who don't like their pictures taken,
I thought I would let you see this unflattering picture of me.
Good friends, good times!!
Again, Tommy and Jenn, next to them on the right is
Karst's Grandparents, Robert and Myrtle.
She finally got her nap when she was sitting with Karst's dad Rich
and his Grandma.
It is the end, and Ashlynn is done, the heels are off.
We finally sat down and ate, see another great picture of us.

In no time Charlee was back awake and ready to play with everyone.
Here she is with Justin, Gaye's son,Charlee's first dance.
So while everyone else was cleaning up, and packing up.
I needed to get more pictures of Charlee in her dress, I couldn't get enough.
Love it when she laughs and holds her foot.

I could not take it any more, I got on the floor and played with her.

She is such a happy fun baby.
As we were leaving I had to get more pictures.
This is the building, we were on the top floor.
Amazingly restored just 4 years ago.
Here is Justin and his crazy mom Gaye,
even though it was getting late they didn't want to leave.
There it is Manti in the back as we were leaving,
if you look close you can see the temple on the hill.
This is were I show some of my crazy. The next day was Sunday, so I put Charlee back in her dress for church and then that night when it was time for her bath I had quite the emotional break down, I did not want to take the dress off her. I did not want the days or the experience end. It seemed I had waited for so many years to put my baby daughter in a white dress and then I had to take it off, never knowing if I would get the chance to do this again with another child. I got out my camera and took more pictures to try and help hold the memories of the amazing day.

I love this picture of these two.
Seeing them together is one of my favorite parts of being a mother.

Another crying spell as I unbuttoned the dress.

We kept the bows in for awhile.
She was done, time for bed, didn't want to be on her stomach, either.
Just like all things you wait for, you blink and the day is gone. This was an amazing experience, a day of celebration, a day to feel the love from Heaven and to have such a strong spiritual feeling all day. Even if I had not taken too many pictures, we will never forget,
when Charlee became our daughter forever.

The pain, bitterness and hurt that was there all those years from infertility, has been healed. The hope, the dream, the desire to be parents and have an eternal family all came to really be. And through all our tomorrows yet to come we will never forget the paths that brought us together and the hands that worked to make it happen. I can't wait for Charlee to be old enough for us to share all this with her.
