Wacky Wednesday . . . I love America

Okay, I know this isn't wacky or unique, but I wanted to share with you my love for America, with Independence Day around the corner I thought this would be a perfect time.

I admit it, I have always gotten teary eyed when I hear the "The Star-Spangled Banner."  Isn't it just such a triumphant of a song, doesn't it just touch your heart?  To think that Francis Scott Key wrote the poem, while he had been in custody of the British Soldiers and he couldn't fight the battle, and then the next day when he woke up and saw the flag, his flag, and it was still there.  You can hear is joy and his patriotism in those works.  This is my favorite verse:

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war's desolation!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: 'In God is our trust.'

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

I have always loved early American history, I can't imagine my life with out the liberties I enjoy today and I can't imagine how hard and scary it was to be living at the time and not knowing if this new country, would survive.  I think our duty, our obligation as American's is to remember those who sacrificed and continue to sacrifice for our liberties, that we never take them for granted, our freedom is something to cherish, enjoy and protect.  It is our job to honor all those who have and who do defend our country we owe them at least our deepest respect.  And we need to make sure we celebrate our freedom, our liberty, our rights that we bought with the blood of the noble!!

So when we bought our house, the only room I knew how I was going to decorate was going to be the kitchen, I wanted it red, white and blue.  This was pre-9/11 and there really wasn't a lot out there.  I had to find the fabric to make my curtains because there was no americana curtains.  I also had to special order my stencil because it wasn't a "normal stencil" that they carried.  Then 9/11 happened and now I am glad to say you don't have to go far to find americana stuff.  The backside of my curtains that faces my window has faded to white, there are too many nail holes in my wall and they are needing a fresh coat of paid.  I have many ideas of what other great kitchens I could create, when I think of parting with my Warren Kimball Flag, all my cute red white and blue crap in my dining room and not having all my little flags going around the room, I am heart sick.  So I guess they are going to stay.  I'll make new curtains, I'll patch and paint the walls but my flags will come back,  maybe even this time they will be straight.

Happy 4th of July, make it good, make it fun.  I have to work one holiday a year and this is the one I will be working, but at  least I have the freedom to complain about it!!
